Join us in shaping Canada’s sustainable energy future
The Pembina Institute is seeking a highly motivated student to join our Strategic Partnerships team for a 16-week internship based out of any one of our five offices (Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa, Toronto). The internship, running from May to August 2026, will support our Strategic Partnerships team by contributing to prospect research, supporting donor stewardship activities, and assisting in the development of fundraising materials that help advance our organizational mission.

Who we are
At the Pembina Institute, it’s all hands on deck and it has been for the last 40+ years.

Our 55+ person team, distributed across the country, are passionate and dedicated, but we don't sweat the small stuff. We’re too busy tackling one of the most important issues of our time: Canada’s clean energy transition.

In that transition, we don’t leave anyone behind and believe each member of our team plays a critical role in achieving our goals. We ensure equity but promote individuality. We lead with curiosity — challenging our own ideas and limiting beliefs, being open to diversity of thought and opinion. We use evidence-based thinking to inform our recommendations to decision-makers and understand that to make long-lasting changes, we need to take a practical approach when collaborating with others.

Our commitment to responsible development, and our “tough, but fair” approach, using research, consulting and convening, gives us credibility with decision-makers whose actions today are setting the direction for the planet. Are you ready to join us?

Meet the team
The Strategic Partnerships team is collaborative group of fundraising and partnership-building professionals. We play a key role in supporting the Pembina Institute’s mission by cultivating relationships, stewarding funders, and securing grants, donations, and sponsorships that fuel our program areas. Our team works closely with program experts to connect external partners with opportunities that support Canada’s clean energy transition.

The opportunity

As an intern, you will contribute to research, coordination, and administrative support to ensure the Strategic Partnerships team is well equipped for outreach, stewardship, and proposal development.

Your key responsibilities

  • Assist with administrative tasks to support the SP team’s fundraising efficiency, including file management, updating funder portals and databases, and maintaining accurate funder/donor records.
  • Support the maintenance of efficient systems and effective communication by reviewing and summarizing donor feedback and requesting donor testimonials.
  • Support the SP team’s annual review of our communications products and the process of philanthropic stakeholder mapping.
  • Identify potential new domestic and international funders through research and database mining.
  • Other tasks such as the creation of backgrounders and assisting with proposal and report development.

What we’re looking for
You are a student enrolled in fundraising, communications, business, public policy, sustainability, economics, or a related field at an accredited Canadian post-secondary institution. You’re highly motivated and passionate about using your research, communication, and analytical skills to contribute meaningfully to transitioning Canada to clean energy — you’re driven to make an impact.

What you bring

  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to synthesize information clearly for different audiences.
  • Solid research and analytical abilities, ideally with experience gathering and organizing information from diverse sources.
  • Interest in non-profit fundraising, donor engagement, or partnerships development.
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented; can take initiative.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability and commitment to work hybrid, full-time (37.5 hours per week) from May 4th to August 28th, 2026.

Compensation

The rate is $25.00 per hour and will be paid in accordance with applicable legislation related to the Employment Standards Act for overtime, holiday and vacation pay.

To apply

Applications will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. MT on Sunday, February 1, 2026.
The Pembina Institute is committed to an inclusive, accessible and welcoming hiring process that provides reasonable accommodation to all applicants. Please advise if you require any accommodation to participate in these posting, recruitment, selection or assessment processes.

The Pembina Institute is a think-tank and registered charity that advocates for strong, effective policies to support Canada's clean energy transition. Go to the company's page»
