The Forest Sciences Centre (FSC) is one of the Designated Learning Spaces on campus at UBC. The FSC study space consists of an open atrium of group tables and couches surrounded by greenery in the heart of the Forestry building. This spot is a vibrant place for individual or group study. The FSC was completed in 1998 and was designed using Canadian forest products. The 17, 505-square-metre Forest Sciences complex has 11 classrooms, 2 lecture theatres, teaching laboratories, office space, computer labs, study areas, and a cafeteria and houses the Faculty’s three departments - Forest Resources Management, Wood Science, and Forest and Conservation Sciences. Though forestry is constantly growing and evolving, UBC’s position as a leader in forestry education remains steadfast. The Faculty of Forestry provides students with an education that is second-to-none. Interdisciplinary approaches, science-based courses, groundbreaking research, cutting-edge technologies, and hands-on experience allow our students to excel in university and beyond.
Programs are spread across three departments: Forest Resources Management, Forest Sciences and Conservation, and Wood Sciences. A variety of degree programs comprised of courses, labs, and co-ops allow students to gain the invaluable experience necessary for their future careers. Led by a team of top scientists and preeminent educators, the Faculty of Forestry provides students with an in-depth education in class and out in the field.
The Faculty of Forestry is a research hub, producing invaluable projects and innovations to further advance the field of forestry. Throughout Canada, no other forestry program receives as high a level of funding.
The Faculty of Forestry is situated in the at UBC’s Point Grey Campus, on unceded traditional and ancestral Musqueam territory.
Off-campus facilities include two: the Malcolm Knapp Research Forest in Maple Ridge and the Alex Fraser Research Forest near Williams Lake.
